This is how *my* day is going.
`One or more errors occured` great, thanks. *WHAT* errors? there's no explanatory popup, there's no log file, nothing.
This says:
`This is an edge case we couldn't be arsed to handle properly either because we are lazy developers or our product management doesn't give a shit. So fuck you Mr/Ms Customer.`
not even spelled correctly. Not a good sign from a translation tool.

A (not) helpful error message from a Computer Aided Translation tool indicating "An error has occured (sic) while using the translation provider Language Weaver Cloud: One or more errors occured."

There is no immediately obvious detail or a log message to drill into for further details. Absolutely nothing helpful.

#OpenRC […] has been in a state of bureaucratic decay for a decade now, having all been hoarded by a random corporate contractor about as responsive to the outside universe as OpenOffice (while taking up as much space; they're the entire reason for the farcical metadata/AUTHORS file in the main package repo).
"""
#Gentoo copyright policy (AKA #GLEP76) has been a long time in the making. More specifically, as you can guess from the author list, it has been a long time in fruitless debate, followed by a short period of creative activity. In its original form, it has been unanimously approved both by the Council and the Trustees in September 2018.
bugs.gentoo.org/653118
Not a month later, once we've actually started requiring signoffs per the new policy, one of the Council members requested a "transitional period", to give their company's legal team more time to approve it. Like, they've actively influenced the policy, they've actually voted for approving it, but they didn't mean for it to actually apply at the time — and they've never bothered telling anyone about the problem earlier. Fortunately, they've managed to get a quick approval and started using it.
bugs.gentoo.org/667602
As a side effect of using it, attribution lines to said company started popping up in random ebuilds that their employees touched (malicious compliance or just corporate bullshit?). This heralded a maintenance nightmare. Two months later, metadata/AUTHORS was proposed as a compromise to stop that.
bugs.gentoo.org/672962
All these years later, I'm thinking that we had a simpler solution to all these, and many later problems, at our disposal back then…

Spent a chunk of the weekend looking at new backup solutions.
Currently using mega.io (documents etc) google photos, but once the size goes up it starts to get really expensive, and though E2EE (on Mega) is lovely the local processing sometimes hits my machine hard (and large file sync for videos etc can be painfully slow).
Looking at self-hosting with docker syncthing as a base, and it looks remarkably easy, cheap & dramatically better! More so than I expected.

This is a good point. I’m a big proponent of *provider diversity*. Every cloud service you use should have a different login. Every piece of data you create should have an easily-accessible copy in your local file system. Everything on your computer should be backed up offsite with a separate cloud backup.
Do not put all your eggs into one cloud service basket. Do not use the same login for unrelated services. This rules out most of Apple’s cloud products for me.

I've successfully gone from "write a quick python script to do something" to "I have a complex python application with a config file that gives me a lot of flexibility in using it and actually saves me a ton of time", and am currently considering escalating to "I need a domain-specific language (DSL) for the config to support even more complex use cases".
However, my intuition says that, as a rule of thumb, when you reach the point where you consider introducing a DSL, you should maybe instead reconsider some other parts of the system first. For example, I may just make it easier to introduce your own Python code to perform these complex custom checks, instead of generating it based on a config file 😅.

The latest Django releases were signed by another person, so I needed to update the #Gentoo keyring used to verify them. The keyring is created via fetching the #PGP keys from different sources, and then concatenating them to a single file. However, today I wasn't able to get the new key to work! Or more precisely, to get #GnuPG to correctly import the concatenated keys.
It simply imported 3 out of 4 keys, with no error or whatever. I've scratched my head, tried removing one old key that wasn't used by any of the current releases — then got 2 out of 3. I've tried reordering the keys, but then the other necessary key was ignored. I ran out of time and gave up for the moment.
Now, I've taken another look… and I've found the issue. Turns out that #GitHub, in their magic `.gpg` URLs, is outputting the ASCII-armored #OpenPGP keys without a trailing newline. While this technically isn't broken if the key is imported directly, concatenating it to another key creates a broken file with:
```
-----END PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK----------BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK-----
```
and *of course* GnuPG silently ignores the later key instead of reporting a problem.

UI struggle on Godot/iPad.
Currently you can import files into a project by clicking [ ] on the file pad, and it will default the target directory to your selection. But this is not easy to discover.
So I figured "Let me add an Import File in the top menu", and I can popup a file selector.
But that would dump the files at the root of the project.
Alternatively, I would need to open *two* file selectors: one to pick the file to import, one to pick the desti…

I sincerely cannot see the need nor even understand any reason why anyone would ever want this. The existing text format is simple to use and hard to misinterpret.
But if you’re using DROP (and everyone should) then I guess you, like me, now need to go rewrite working simple tools to use intrinsically more complex mechanisms to ingest more garbage data but get no more useful information.
Is there an aftermarket for used curly braces?

Today I learned that Safari can’t understand compound extensions in the accept attribute of file inputs.
So, for example…
<input
type="file"
accept=".kitten.databases.tar.gz"
>
… fails. So you have to do:
<input
type="file"
accept=".gz"
>
(Which, of course, opens the person up to more chances of selecting the wrong file.)
